In an exciting development for local education and community engagement, Peel Community Men’s Shed has been selected as a recipient of a $9,000 grant from the Mandurah Forum Vicinity Community Grants program. This funding will support their upcoming Bridge Building competition, set to involve schools across the Peel Region.

The Vicinity Community Grants program, now in its second year, aims to bolster community resilience and connectedness nationwide by empowering local groups. Amanda Betteridge, Centre Manager of Mandurah Forum, expressed enthusiasm about the impact this grant will have. "The grant will enable Peel Community Men’s Shed to showcase the invaluable contributions of their volunteers," Betteridge noted. Moreover, it provides a unique opportunity for collaboration between generations, as young participants engage in a stimulating competition that challenges their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills.

Peel Community Men’s Shed, known for its dedication to community service, applied for the grant through Vicinity's competitive grants program. "On reviewing the positive impact they have on our community," Betteridge explained, "we are delighted to support their initiative."

The Bridge Building competition promises to foster creativity and learning among local students while promoting teamwork and innovation. It aligns with the broader goals of Vicinity's Community Grants program, which focuses on youth engagement, environmental sustainability, education, and community well-being. With a total funding pool of $110,000, the program underscores Vicinity's commitment to nurturing meaningful connections within the communities surrounding its centers.

Launched in 2023, the Vicinity Community Grants initiative has quickly become a cornerstone of Vicinity's community involvement strategy. By supporting initiatives like the Bridge Building competition, Vicinity continues to strengthen its ties with local communities, ensuring they remain vibrant and interconnected.

As preparations for the competition get underway, anticipation is high for the positive impact it will undoubtedly have on both participants and the broader Peel Region community. The event not only promises to inspire future engineers and innovators but also to reinforce the vital role community organizations like Peel Community Men’s Shed play in fostering community spirit and growth.
