From keeping the kids entertained to hosting friends and family on long balmy evenings, here are a few easy and inexpensive ways to dial up the fun this summer.

1. Give your outdoor space a makeover

Being exposed to the elements all the time can leave your outdoor entertaining area looking a little tired. With summer in full swing, now might be time to give things a freshen up. It doesn’t need to cost a fortune - try some new all-weather cushion covers, a couple of candle lanterns and a new umbrella. You’ll be surprised the difference it can make. You’ll find all these and many more outdoor items at Dusk, Big W, Kmart and salt&pepper.

2.      Create a summer spread

There’s nothing quite as relaxing as a sunset drink on a warm summer evening. But don’t forget the nibbles! A summer grazing board is a crowd pleaser that’s quick and easy to put together. Start with a wooden chopping board from House, Matchbox or salt&pepper and then let your imagination run free with your favourite food from Coles, Woolworths or Bakers Delight.

Then, combine chopped fresh fruit with either juice or yoghurt from [local retailer], pop them in the freezer and before you know it, you’ve got yourself heaven on a stick. But these aren’t just for the kids. With so many different ingredient options, you can make a bunch of flavours that adults can enjoy too.

4.      Backyard camping

We all know that hot weather and bored children are not a great combination. But there is a simple fix that doesn’t mean driving for hours and paying for expensive campsite passes.
